Andrea Maccantelli is a PhD student in the Biomarker Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Maria Cristina Fossi at the Department of Physical Sciences, Earth and Environment, University of Siena (Italy). He obtained a degree in ecotoxicology and environmental sustainability in 2020 with a thesis focusing on the identification of a methodology for isolating microplastics from organic matrices and its application in fish species of the Mediterranean Sea. After graduation, he worked for two years as a laboratory instrumentation technician at an environmental analysis laboratory, evaluating metals and trace elements in various matrices using an ICP-Mass Spectrometer. His current PhD research, which began in 2023, focuses on evaluating the presence of plastic additives in various biological matrices using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry techniques.
